Addressing Complex Humanitarian Emergencies: The Case for Local Leadership during COVID-19

January 21st, 2021 @ 9:00 am

The novel coronavirus pandemic brings into stark view the imperative for humanitarian leadership. The pandemic forces communities and countries into a state of lockdown, restricting transit of people – including humanitarian actors – in or out, and so it shines a spotlight on the limits of both governments’ capacity to respond as well as the gaps in the international humanitarian aid system where local leadership, preparedness measures, and coordination need to be the most robust.

The webinar will bring members of the NNPHL community together with humanitarian actors from international and national NGOs, academia, and health workers to discuss how the humanitarian sector is coping with and preparing for the challenges of current and future pandemics, and the role of local leadership in addressing these challenges.
