CHDS Seminar with Ronen Arbel: Impacting Covid-19 and Monkeypox Global Policy by Creating Prompt Evidence

November 7th, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Virtual
Headshot of Ronen Arbel

Abstract: Creating prompt evidence that can impact decision-making raises significant methodological challenges: What key outcomes need to be assessed? How can we maximize data capture for short follow-up and rare end-point events? How can we minimize various biases between the intervention and control groups? Coping with these challenges is demonstrated by a few studies that impacted real-time decision-making: These include first and second booster studies that affected Covid-19 policy in the US, and monkeypox studies that helped contain the outbreak in Israel.

Bio:  Ronen Arbel’s research evaluates the impact of innovative healthcare interventions on clinical and economic outcomes. His primary clinical areas are Covid-19, cardiovascular disease, and their intersection. Arbel leads the Outcomes Research Unit at Clalit Health Services in Israel, which gained worldwide recognition as a primary source for evaluating the effectiveness of Covid-19 interventions. Arbel initiated a few large-scale medical AI programs with leading clinicians and scientists worldwide to materialize the vision of optimizing personalized therapy in cardiovascular patients.
