HSPH-NIEHS Center for Environmental Health Seminar: Community-Driven Research on Environmental Injustice, Energy and Health in Southern California with Jill Johnston, PhD, Associate Professor of Environmental Health and Spatial Sciences, University of Southern California

Join us for our 2023-2024 colloquium series on Environmental Health in Action. Jill Johnston, PhD, Associate Professor of Environmental Health and Spatial Sciences, will deliver a lecture entitled Community-Driven Research on Environmental Injustice, Energy, and Health in Southern California.

Dr. Jill Johnston is an Associate Professor at the University of Southern California in the Division of Environmental Health, Department of Population and Public Health Sciences of the Keck School of Medicine of USC and the USC Spatial Sciences Institute. She also serves as Director of Community Engagement in the Division of Environmental Health at University of Southern California.

Broadly, her research focuses on addressing unequal exposures to harmful contaminants that affect the health of working poor and communities of color. Dr. Johnston previously worked as a community organizer on issues of environmental and economic justice in South Texas. Currently, she engages in collaborations with grassroots organizations to conduct community-engaged action-oriented research at USC to support environmental justice.

Dr. Johnston received her Ph.D. in environmental sciences and engineering from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she studied hazardous waste sites and industrial animal production.

Students and Postdocs: We will host an in-person Trainee Session with Dr. Johnston from 12:00 – 12:45pm ET (before the presentation). This is a chance for students and postdocs to meet privately with our speaker to discuss research interests, career advice, funding opportunities, etc. Open to Harvard ID holders only.
