Abstract: Tuberculosis is an ancient but apparently unshakeable disease. Until the Covid-19 epidemic, TB was the leading infectious cause of death among adults and rates are likely to rise as Covid-19 recedes. Why does TB continue to be such a devastating illness and what are the prospects for better disease control?
