Reede Scholars 14th Annual Health Equity Symposium – Advancing Health Equity: Opportunities & Challenges Within our Payer System

May 11th, 2023 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

This event is part of the 2023 Leadership & Faculty Development Program Conference.

Earlier this year, CMS released an updated framework to, among other things, advance health equity. The five health equity
priorities include 1) expand the collection, reporting, and analysis of standardized data, 2) Address inequities in policies and
operations to close gaps, 3) Build capacity, 4) Advance Language access, health literacy, and provision of culturally tailored
services, and 5) Increase all forms of accessibility to health care.

As the nation’s largest health insurer, CMS has often taken the lead on various initiatives including advancing health equity.
In this panel discussion, we will be taking a deeper dive into the programs and policies that various payers have initiated to
advance health equity. We will take a closer look at Medicaid and Medicaid managed care programs and their efforts to address the social determinants of health. Finally, we will examine the opportunities and challenges payers face in achieving meaningful results.

Sponsored by Harvard Medical School Office for Diversity Inclusion & Community Partnership.
