Sovereignty and Success: Case Studes in Native Nation Health Leadership

When Native Nations make their own decisions about what development approaches to take, they consistently outperform external decision makers on matters as diverse as governmental form, natural resource management, economic development, social service provision, and health care outcomes. Through a series of case studies, this lunchtime seminar invites Harvard Chan faculty and students to consider the role of Indigenous sovereignty as a determinant of health.

Presented by the Project on Indigenous Governance and Development at the Harvard Kennedy School – the recognized leader in practical research, teaching, leadership development, policy analysis, and pro bono advising for Native Nations – members of the Harvard Chan community are invited to join HKS Prof. Joe Kalt (Project Director), Dr. Miriam Jorgensen (Research Director), Eric Henson (Outreach Director) and Momi Afelin (MPH’24) to explore opportunities for expansion of impactful work in the public health and health care spaces.
