Agriculture and Food during a Natural Disaster
In the summer of 2019, almost 2 years after Hurricane Maria destroyed 80% of crops in Puerto Rico, researchers from the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health collaborated with the Bucarabόn Foundation to carry out a study on food access, social support, and agricultural recovery among farmers during a natural disaster. The researchers interviewed 30 farmers in 15 municipalities in the central mountainous region of PR about their experiences reestablishing their businesses after Hurricane Maria. The results demonstrated how farming communities collaborated to rebuild and reveal strategies to create more self-sufficient, resilient, and healthy local food systems.

En el verano del 2019, casi 2 años después que el huracán María destruyό un 80% de los cultivos en Puerto Rico, investigadores de la Escuela de Salud Pública TH Chan de la Universidad de Harvard colaboró con la Fundación Bucarabόn para realizar un estudio sobre el acceso a los alimentos, el apoyo social, y la recuperación entre agricultores después de un desastre natural. Los investigadores entrevistaron 30 agricultores en 15 pueblos de la cordillera central sobre sus experiencias reestableciendo sus negocios después del huracán María. Los resultados demostraron como comunidades agrícolas colaboraron para reconstruir y revelan estrategias para crear sistemas de alimentación locales más autosuficientes, resilientes, y saludables.
