The AI Revolution in Public Health – And What it Means for Business Leaders

PHBL Roundtable invitation - the AI Revolution

Self-driving cars, virtual assistants, and chatbots – Artificial intelligence (AI) is no longer a vague futuristic vision but a profound disrupter to all industries. With the launch of GPT-4, the latest technology of the OpenAI family, the discussion about the transformative potential of AI has become ubiquitous.

Within the public health community, the enthusiasm and concerns about these new technologies are manifold. While AI can play an essential role in improving diagnostics, streamlining clinical practice, and making healthcare accessible for everyone, questions about patient data, biased algorithms, and misinformation arise. In this context, how do leading companies, life science organizations, and academic institutions navigate this transformation to stay on top of the curve, and where are the limitations of these new technologies when it comes to real-life implementation? The transformative power of AI has enormous potential to improve the health and well-being of people. Yet, it also comes with unprecedented challenges that need to be anticipated in new policies.

“The AI Revolution” on May 26 will shed light on the promises and perils of AI in public health. AI expert Dr. Andrew Beam, Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, will talk about artificial intelligence in public health in this 60-minute remote session for business leaders. He will focus on answering some basics about GPT4 – what is it? What isn’t it? How it works? And the ensuing conversation will focus on attendee questions and discussion, including the use of quantitative, data-driven methods in healthcare to improve, streamline, and automate decision-making.
