Ben-Sommers

Benjamin Sommers, associate professor of health policy and economics at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, has received the AcademyHealth HSR (Health Services Research) Impact Award for his work evaluating the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The award was presented on January 30, 2017, at the AcademyHealth National Health Policy Conference in Washington, D.C.

Sommers’ research focuses on barriers to health care access among low-income adults, Medicaid policy, and national health reform. His research on the ACA—which has encompassed effects of coverage on health, movement between coverage sources, the dependent coverage provision, and marketplace and Medicaid expansions—has informed policymakers ranging from state legislators to the Obama administration and has been cited in Supreme Court briefings.

AcademyHealth is a national association of health policy researchers. Its HSR Impact Award recognizes examples of outstanding research that has been successfully translated into health policy, health care management, or clinical practice.
