Gina McCarthy encourages young climate change activists

Gina McCarthy, former EPA administrator and current director of Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health’s Center for Climate, Health, and the Global Environment (C-CHANGE), recently sat down with two teenage climate change activists to discuss the challenges climate change presents, the history of environmental activism, and the importance of optimism.

In the interview, published by WBUR on September 16, 2019, McCarthy said that people should not be “unrealistic about the challenge” of climate change, but that they should be “hopeful for the future.”

Additionally, McCarthy recently spoke to students at Miami University’s Institute for Environment & Sustainability, where she told the crowd that “climate change needs to be personalized, not vilified,” according to a September 17, 2019 Miami Student article. McCarthy also urged the audience to engage in conversations on climate change in a way that helps people better understand how it affect their lives.
