Poll: Reducing health care costs top priority for most Americans

About 80% of Americans say reducing health care and prescription drug costs are their top priorities, regardless of party affiliation, according to a new POLITICO-Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health survey.

In a Politico article published on February 19, 2020, Robert Blendon, who helped design the poll, said respondents are thinking about how incredibly expensive the health care system can be, not about which major overhaul of the health care system would be best.

“Even among Democrats, the top issues are pocketbook issues — not the big system reform debates,” said Blendon, the Richard L. Menschel Professor of Public Health and Professor of Health Policy and Political Analysis. “They’re worried about their own lives, their own payments, and what they can afford.”
