CCDD ID Epi Seminar Series

May 9th @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Virtual In Person
Headshot of Carl Bergstrom

Talk title:  The impediments to high-risk, high-return research

Presenter: Carl Bergstrom, Professor at the Department of Biology, University of Washington

Dr. Bergstrom is a Professor of Biology at the University of Washington. The unifying theme of his work is the concept of information; how communication evolves and how the process of evolution encodes information in genomes; how norms and institutions influence scholars’ research strategies and our scientific understanding of the world; and how citations and other scholarly activity can be used to navigate the overwhelming volume of scholarly literature. He is concerned with the spread of disinformation on social networks, and interested in what can be done.

About the series: Each spring, CCDD hosts an annual seminar series featuring talks from experts on the latest research in infectious disease epidemiology and modeling. The ID Epi Seminar Series aims to bring in speakers from various disciplines within infectious disease epidemiology, broadly defined to include the population biology of pathogens and other allied topics. Seminars will be held on Thursdays, unless otherwise noted, at 1pm ET between February 2nd and May 9th.

Register for the seminar here.
Speakers will share their own perspectives; they do not speak for Harvard.
