Join the Department of Global Health and Population and the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies (DRCLAS) at Harvard University for an in-person panel discussion featuring G10 Favelas, a Brazilian NGO.
Wednesday, October 4, from 2:30-4:00PM
HSPH Building 1, Room 1208, 665 Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02115
Poor, marginalized favela residents were some of the most hard struck populations in Brazil during the COVID-19 pandemic, not only in terms of infections and deaths but also economically. Join us to learn about how G10 Favelas, a Brazilian NGO inspired by the Group of Seven (G7), implemented emergency measures to support favela residents throughout the pandemic. This will be a unique opportunity to engage directly with G10 leaders to learn about their experiences, strategies, accomplishments, and challenges with public health before, during, and after the pandemic.
Featuring speakers: Gilson Rodrigues, President, G10 Favelas; Givanildo Pereira, CEO and Founder, Favela Brasil Xpress; Suéli Feio, Co-Founder, Costurando Sonhos Brasil; Rosilane Queiroz Soares, Financial Coordinator, G10 Favelas
Moderated by: Marcia Castro, Andelot Professor of Demography; Chair of the Department of Global Health and Population, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health; Chair, Brazil Studies Program – DRCLAS; Faculty Affiliate, Center for International Development
