Former EPA heads sound alarm on administration’s regulatory rollbacks

Gina McCarthy, director of the Center for Climate, Health, and the Global Environment at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) administrator under President Obama, recently joined former EPA heads from previous Republican administrations to raise the alarm about the agency’s direction.

At a June 11, 2019 hearing before the U.S. House Energy and Commerce oversight subcommittee, the former administrators voiced concerns that current efforts to roll back environmental regulations are endangering public health. The testimony followed a letter sent from seven of the 10 surviving EPA leaders to lawmakers, which urged that the EPA focus its work on protecting health and the environment.
