Participant Overview

Participants are working towards receiving an official “Letter of Participation” in the Public Health Leadership Lab.   They will complete all program requirements during Fall Semester.  Please see below for a timeline and details of each requirement:

Retreats

Self-Assessment Sessions

Students deepen their self-awareness by looking at their past, present, and future through structured exercises and reflection.  In the Self-Assessment Sessions, students identify areas of strength and growth in their understanding of themselves as a leader and learner.  These small group sessions provide space for deeper conversations and discussions.

Pre-work and readings will be assigned before each session and attendance is mandatory. Students choose between Section A (Wednesday night sessions Oct. 2, Oct. 16, Oct. 30 and Nov. 13) or Section B (Thursday night sessions Oct. 3, Oct. 17, Oct 31 and Nov. 14).

Team Project with Coaching

It is important to take what is learned in the classroom and apply it in a real-world setting.  On December 7, 2019, PHL Lab will host a Public Health Leadership Conference at HSPH. The Conference is lead, designed and presented by PHL Lab students. PHL Lab Participants and Concentrators are assigned teams at the beginning of the program. The PHL Lab Teams construct workshops to be delivered at the Conference.  The PHL Lab Teams provide a space where students can practice leadership and team building skills with their peers.  The Teams receive coaching from the PHL Lab Teaching Team throughout Fall Semester to support their leadership development and workshop creation.

Please see last year’s PHL Conference for more information.

Public Health Leadership Conference

The Public Health Leadership Conference on December 7th is a way to connect the work and learning that is done in the Lab to the larger Harvard Chan School student population.  Each Team will be required to participate in the organization, preparation, and execution of the conference.
