The Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative is an ambitious joint effort of Harvard Kennedy School and Harvard Business School in close collaboration with and funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies to advance leadership, management, and innovation in cities. The program aims to equip mayors and their senior leaders with the tools, skills, and support increasingly required to tackle the complex leadership and management challenges faced in running cities. The initiative is comprised of:

  • Executive education for mayors and senior members of their teams to foster their professional growth and to advance key practices and capabilities in city halls throughout the world

  • Ongoing support for cities to aid in their progress and deepen their engagement, learning, and ability to affect change

  • Research and curriculum development to:

    • Create new, usable knowledge about municipal governance, effective city leadership, and innovative problem-solving in urban settings

    • Consolidate existing knowledge and make the developing body of knowledge more accessible to current and future leaders in cities around the world

    • Capture the new knowledge generated through the interaction between practitioners and academics in the programs
