Session Title: Healthy Kids Allegheny Task Force: Convening Organizations Across Sectors to Combat Childhood Obesity
Description: Health agencies play a unique role in convening cross-sector partners; however, many health departments face challenges on how to develop and sustain cross-sector partnerships to address their community needs. This session will describe how the Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD) leveraged funding and training opportunities to cultivate alliances and gain support for future planning to reduce childhood obesity. ACHD convened diverse stakeholders and developed a collective impact strategy to address childhood obesity. To support this work, ACHD partnered with researchers at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health to participate in a training, technical assistance, and modeling initiative that is part of the Childhood Obesity Intervention Cost Effectiveness Study (CHOICES) Project. The session will discuss how strategies to engage and identify local partners who might be key in future implementation and/or communications activities, as well as share a variety of tools and resources are available to health agencies to enable more informed prioritization of strategies to reduce childhood obesity.
