Dr Bulstra’s research with the Health Systems Innovation Lab focusses on designing and testing healthcare delivery innovations to integrate and optimise healthcare for chronic diseases in areas with the largest healthcare demands.

Caroline did her PhD at the Erasmus MC Department of Public Health in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, where she applied geospatial modelling approaches to (i) identify high-risk areas, (ii) unravel transmission dynamics, and (iii) identify population-level risk factors for HIV, malaria and various Neglected Tropical Diseases (leprosy, visceral leishmaniasis, soil-transmitted helminths) in the Global South.

Next to her work at the Lab, she holds a position as Research Group Lead “Global Health Systems and Planetary Health” at the Heidelberg Institute for Global Health in Germany.

Dr Bulstra has been involved in various consultancy projects for UN organisations, among which for the World Bank, the WHO and UNAIDS. She holds a BSc and MSc (DVM) degree in Veterinary Medicine from Utrecht University and a MSc (MHSc) in Epidemiology from Erasmus University Rotterdam.
