Dorchester, MA- A community garden 15 years in the making celebrated a ribbon cutting in September. The newly finished garden and open space at the corner of Magnolia and Alexander Streets now includes an assortment of garden plots, places to sit, a small play area, a gathering space, water access for gardening, walking areas, and a community mural.

Our Center partnered with one of the organizing partners, the Fairmount Greenway Task Force, to test the soil using our portable X-ray fluorescence (XRF)  machine and discovered high levels of lead. Due to these findings, our team advised that the community space incorporate raised beds for vegetables and artificial turf for the playground.
