Postdoctoral Opportunities in Statistical Genetics and Genetic Epidemiology
We are actively hiring for two postdoctoral fellow positions (2-3 years) working for methods and applications using large scale biobanks and longitudinal cohorts. Applications interested in statistical/computational method development or applied research are both welcome to apply.
Depending on background experience and research interest, the fellows will have ample opportunities to work on biobank-scale multi-omics datasets, including metabolomics, GWAS, DNA methylation, microbiome, and expression data, for cardiometabolic diseases and traits, asthma and allergy traits, Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD), kidney functions, mental health disorders and cancers. Study participants are enriched of multiple ethnicities including European white, African American, Hispanic American and Asian. These resources are also available to motivate and evaluate newly developed computational methods for complex diseases broadly.
In addition, we are actively working on two multi-ethnic prospective cohorts followed from birth to young adulthood with multi-omics datasets (GWAS, DNA methylation, metabolomics, microbiome) newly available. One cohort for overweight and obesity outcome and the other for asthma related traits. The postdoc fellows will also have the opportunity to work on GWAS and tissue specific metabolomics data for Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and genome-wide DNA methylation data for IgAN.
The postdoc fellows would have ample opportunities to develop methods or use creative ideas to analyze these data for cross population genetic effect, shared genetics among multiple phenotypes, Gene-Environment interaction and their clinical utilities in longitudinal cohorts. They will also have the opportunities to collaborate with many excellent researchers here at Harvard and the Boston area.
The fellows will work closely with Dr. Liang, with other quantitative Ph.D’s in his group and the Program in Genetic Epidemiology and Statistical Genetics, and with collaborators at HSPH, HMS and the Broad Institute, JHU and the world. Fellows will be mentored to facilitate transition to independent research careers by emphasizing acquisition skills of analysis, writing, grant application, and other research and career advancement. Applicants should have a doctoral degree in Statistics/Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Human Genetics or other relevant discipline with strong quantitative research background; practical experience working with large scale genetic data sets, developing new methods, and producing high-quality published work, are desirable.
