A closer look at multivitamins

July 12, 2022 – JoAnn Manson, professor in the Department of Epidemiology at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, said in a June 19, 2022, Washington Post article that she would not discourage anyone from taking a multivitamin, but that  “multivitamins and other supplements will never be a substitute for a healthful diet.”

Some people can benefit from taking supplements. For example, prior studies Manson has co-authored have linked vitamin D supplements with a decreased risk of developing autoimmune diseases and reduced deaths from cancer. She is currently researching whether vitamin D has an effect on coronavirus symptoms.
