Communicating Your Practice Experience

Students gain substantial experience during their field practice work, whether it be a formal Practicum, a winter session course overseas, an independent study, engagement with community partners, or a myriad of other ways.

As new or mid-career professionals, we encourage you to develop a habit of communicating about your work to share learnings with peers, develop best practices, and educate others outside of public health. It is an easy step to omit, but becoming proficient in communications – written, visual, and verbal – is the mark of a true practitioner. This can take the form of poster presentations at a conference, an academic publication, a blog or social media post, art display, panel presentation, article in an organization’s newsletter, and many other channels. Awards are another excellent way to share the experiences and accomplishments of you and your team.
