Practicum Information for Host Organizations During COVID-19

Updated August 17, 2020
Information provided here is intended for organizations who are planning to host a Harvard Chan student for their practicum..

First of all, thank you for your interest in hosting a Harvard Chan student for a valuable field practice experience – especially during this public health crisis.

Our students will be online during Fall 2020 and due to our large international student population, many students are studying from their home countries around the world, and will need to do their practicum from their current location and time zone.

Harvard University currently has a policy related to COVID-19 that restricts all international Harvard-related travel and non-essential Harvard-related domestic travel. This restriction is effective until further notice.

Travel policies and other information can be found on this Coronavirus (COVID-19) website for Harvard.

Because of this policy, and perhaps workplace policies at your own organization, please plan to develop a work plan that can be completed remotely as we do not yet know when students will be able to travel or return to campus.

All  student practicum and field immersion projects require faculty approval. The student will draft a Learning Agreement, which includes the scope of work, timeframe, and deliverables. All of these should be able to be completed remotely to avoid disruption to the plan that you develop together.

Again, we are very grateful for your mentorship of Harvard Chan students and we hope that they will be able to contribute to your important work over the coming year. In the meantime, stay healthy and safe.
