Stanley Estime

Stanley Estime, Associate Director of Bio and Laboratory Safety, is responsible for supporting the implementation of Laboratory and Biosafety initiatives/activities for the Harvard Chan School. Stanley works within the Office of Regulatory Affairs & Research Compliance, under the direction of the Associate Dean for Regulatory Affairs & Research Compliance. Stanley is responsible for managing the Laboratory and Biological Safety Focus Forum (LBFF) and Laboratory and Biosafety Staff (LABS) meetings, which provide on-going support and education to the Harvard Chan School’s laboratory and animal research community. In addition, in collaboration with Harvard University Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S), Stanley reviews laboratory inspection reports and provides investigators and laboratory managers with quality improvement recommendations to ensure that research is conducted in accordance with best practices. He also conducts onsite reviews at the request of investigators to prepare for internal and/or external audits and provides assistance to investigators and laboratory personnel in response to and investigation of laboratory-related incidents. Working closely with EH&S Directors and staff, Stanley is responsible for assisting in drafting and reviewing policies, guidelines, and procedures for biological, chemical, and physical hazard exposure monitoring and review of animal experimentation protocols and SOPs. Stanley serves as a member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and as an ex-officio member of the Committee on Microbiological Safety (COMS).

Prior to this role, Stanley has over 10 years experience in the field of research compliance as a Senior QA/QI Specialist within the Harvard Chan School’s Office of Human Research Administration and with the Mass General Brigham Human Research Quality Improvement Program. Stanley also had previous experience working in laboratories at Genzyme and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. Stanley received his Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Laboratory and Clinical Sciences from Boston University and holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Investigations from the MGH Institute of Health Professions.
