Prepare a Bell Fellow research work plan
Each Bell Fellow is expected to develop and carry out a work plan for his/her fellowship which will serve as the blueprint for achieving the goals set forth in the fellowship. The development of the plan should be done with input from the Center director and mentors.
In addition, long-term career goals should be discussed, with an eye toward how the fellowship fits into these.
Attend seminars hosted by the Harvard Pop Center
The Harvard Pop Center hosts weekly Social Demography Seminars (held on Thursdays) and the Friday Lunch “Work-in-Progress” seminars. Fellows are expected to present at least once during their tenure at either the SDS or Friday seminar series.
Attend monthly Fellows’ meetings hosted by Director Lisa Berkman and other faculty
These meetings provide an opportunity for everyone to share updates on their research, discuss relevant papers, explore career options, and prepare for major annual meetings and conferences (e.g. PAA).
Be in attendance at the Center
We request that fellows are in attendance the majority of the time and participate as much as possible in Center activities (e.g. fall outing, Thanksgiving pot-luck, etc.). We provide lots of opportunities to socialize and build community with colleagues.
