The staff at the Harvard Pop Center is excited to collaborate with our Harvard faculty members and postdoctoral fellows on research, career development, and training grants that align with the Center’s mission and areas of interest. Grants hosted by the Harvard Pop Center can take advantage of a variety service offerings from both the administrative and research cores.
Pre-award Service Offerings
Assistance in identifying appropriate funding mechanisms
The Harvard Pop Center specializes in federal funding sources, particularly NIH, but also has experience applying to smaller funding sources and foundations. If you have a research idea but no specific funding source in mind, Harvard Pop Center staff will be happy to meet with you to explore what sponsor programs may be appropriate.
Proposal development and management
The administrative team at the Harvard Pop Center can assist with proposal management, timeline development, subaward/consultant/purchased services coordination, budgeting, compliance, formatting, production, and general grantsmanship. Also on staff are researchers who can assist with project design, editing, human subjects review, and scientific guidance.
Coordination with Harvard’s central sponsored research offices
The Harvard Pop Center has an assigned representative from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health’s Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) and Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA). For applications hosted by the Center, the administrative team will coordinate with SPA to ensure that all university requirements are properly met and documented.
Post-award Service Offerings

Project Management
The administrative team at the Harvard Pop Center can assist with project management activities such financial monitoring and forecasting, effort tracking, progress reports, and requests for revisions or renewals.
Research Support
The research team at the Harvard Pop Center can assist with a variety of project activities, such as conducting literature reviews or primary data analysis. Please visit our Research Resources page for an overview of offerings or contact popcenter@hsph.harvard.edu to discuss potential areas for collaboration.
Expressing Interest
Investigators interested in having a grant hosted by the Center are encouraged to submit an interest form. In order to ensure that sufficient time and resources are made available to prepare a grant proposal, the Center recommends that investigators submit interest forms at least 2 months prior to any sponsored application deadlines.
Harvard Pop Center leadership reviews interest forms on a rolling basis to determine the Center’s ability to support the grant. At this this stage, the Harvard Pop Center is only looking for a general overview of the grant proposal’s purpose, aims, and requirements.
Investigators are always welcome to submit interest forms with preliminary research ideas, even if they are not yet tied to any specific funder. In these cases, Harvard Pop Center staff are happy to work with investigators to develop the research approach and identify potential funding opportunities.
Please also feel free to contact Jeanne Frey if you have any questions or would like to arrange a meeting to discuss potential sponsored research prospects.
Grant Proposal Process
While the specific proposal process will depend on individual grant application requirements, the general timeline of activities is outlined above.
