In situ Omics & the BRAIN initiative

We are approaching the point where any set of single molecules (DNA, RNA, proteins, and ligands) can be identified in the cell while retaining high resolution 3D coordinates and multicellular context via Fluorescent in situ Sequencing (FISSEQ — by hybridization, ligation or polymerase synthesis).  Furthermore, time-series data on some such omics dynamics and developmental lineage can be encoded into nucleic acids.  The potential for interfacing with every cell in the nervous system is an intriguing challenge.
