Longevity gap between rich and poor expanding

Lisa Berkman was interviewed on PBS NewsHour Weekend as part of their Chasing the Dream program.   Dr. Berkman named several implications for the life expectancy gap between the rich and poor including, fewer job opportunities, work-family issues, neighborhood violence, lack of access to healthy food and the absence of places to exercise.

“Where we live is a very important determinant of this growing inequality but it’s not the only one. We have to look at where we live, where we work, and probably how our families are constituted.”
