The Impact of Police Violence and Prolonged Sociopolitical Conflict on Birth Outcomes

Brigette A. Davis, PHS-SBS ’21, has received a dissertation award from the National Research Collaborative on Gun Violence Research for “The Impact of Police Violence and Prolonged Sociopolitical Conflict on Birth Outcomes”. In her project, she will examine the killing of Mike Brown Jr. by the Ferguson Police Department and the following militarized police responses to protests and how they impacted births and pregnancy outcomes.

Davis is one of the nine researchers to have their projects funded in the Collaborative’s second major investment into gun policy research. Other project topics include intimate partner gun violence, officer-related shootings, the effect of gun-free zones, and the risks and benefits of gun ownership.
