Master of Public Health

The MPH degree is the most widely recognized professional credential for leadership in public health.

The Harvard Chan MPH is a school-wide degree program emphasizing active, student-directed learning, and the acquisition of skills essential to the practice of public health. At the degree’s foundation is the essential aim to gain dexterity in the quantitative and qualitative methods needed to solve problems, which is accomplished by an interdisciplinary MPH public health core curriculum that develops collaborative strategies for understanding today’s interrelated public health challenges.

The program is organized around career-oriented fields of study. Each field of study has a focused curriculum with room for electives that allow for additional depth in areas relevant to a student’s personal and professional goals. No matter the field of study, the curriculum is designed to help you gain mastery of MPH and field of study competencies.

As a school-wide degree, the MPH program is based within the Office of Educational Programs. Each field of study is also affiliated with at least one academic department. Students are assigned a faculty academic advisor. Your faculty advisor is a public health expert who is well known for their research, practice, and teaching, and may likely even teach one of your classes. The MPH program staff, as well as the faculty and staff of the relevant academic departments, play an integral role in advising and guiding you along your academic journey.
