Dr. Alexander Tsai is a board-certified psychiatrist at the Massachusetts General Hospital, where he is director of the Program on Social Policy and Behavioral Health at the MGH Center for Global Health. He also has academic affiliations as an associate professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and associate professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Through his research, he seeks to understand how large-scale social pathogens such as stigma, discrimination, and structural violence affect the distribution of mental health outcomes in vulnerable populations in the U.S. and in eastern and southern Africa. Dr. Tsai is founding co-editor-in-chief of the journal Social Science and Medicine-Mental Health. He was elected to membership in the American Society for Clinical Investigation in 2021 and the American College of Psychiatrists in 2023.
