Stephen Tollman is the director of MRC/Wits Rural Public Health and Health Transitions Research Unit (Agincourt), at the School of Public Health; and associate professor and head of the health and population division in the School of Public Health at the University of the Witwatersrand. In the context of the rapidly transitioning society of sub-Saharan Africa, Tollman is focused on better understanding the new burden of chronic diseases, and how to strengthen primary health care systems.
