Current Limited Submission Opportunities

Each year a number of federal and non-federal funders announce funding opportunities and awards for which the school or university is either restricted to submit a limited number of applications or is required to endorse nominees. Nominees must be internally screened and selected to apply for these opportunities.

The Limited Submission Opportunities listed below are divided into the following three categories:
Closed: Harvard Chan nominee has been selected
Active Internal Competitions: Currently Accepting Applications/Notices of Intent
Open for Nomination: The Notice of Intent deadline has expired and a Harvard Chan nominee has not yet been identified.

Internal deadline: August 18, 2024
This program supports basic science, ideally with potential translational applications. This includes immunology, microbiome, structural biology, cellular physiology, cancer biology, genetics, genomics, microbiology and infectious diseases, stem cell biology, and neuroscience. Harvard University, as one institution, can nominate three applicant(s) for this award and the Office of the Vice Provost for Research will manage the application and selection process for the University. Limited Submission: Searle Scholars Program 2025
Deadline: July 21, 2024
The Searle Scholars program supports research of outstanding early career scientists who have recently begun their first appointment at the Assistant Professor level as part of a tenure track appointment. Grants support high risk, high reward research over a period of three years and a total of $300,000/ $100,000 each year.  Harvard University, as one institution, can nominate three applicants for this award and the Office of the Vice Provost for Research will manage the application and selection process for the University. Limited Submission – Greenwall Faculty Scholars 2025

The Greenwall Faculty Scholars Program in Bioethics is a career development award to enable junior faculty members to carry out innovative bioethics research. It supports research that goes beyond current work in bioethics to help resolve pressing ethical issues in clinical, biomedical, and public health decision-making, policy, and practice. Limited Submission – Rita Allen Foundation: Scholars 2025

The Rita Allen Foundation Scholars program supports research scientists in the early stages of their careers, (Assistant Professors). Fields of research are cancer, immunology, and neuroscience. Award funds may only be used for direct project expenses, including up to 50% of the Scholar’s compensation.
