Harvard Strong at PAA’s annual meeting, the premier conference of demographers, and social and health scientists

The annual conference of the Population Assocation of America (PAA) took place on April 12–15 in New Orleans, and Harvard faculty and researchers had a strong presence, serving as discussants, session chairs, presenters, poster session participants, and in leadership roles (our director Lisa Berkman is serving as the current president of the organization). David Bloom, the Clarence James Gamble Professor of Economics and Demography at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and a long-time faculty member at the Harvard Pop Center, was honored for his exceptional contributions “to the scientific study of population and an accumulated record of exceptionally sound and innovative research” with PAA’s distinguished bi-annual Irene B. Taeuber Award. Our recent postdoctoral fellow and current faculty member Christina Cross, who was serving as chair of the PAA 2023 Dorothy S. Thomas Award Committee, presented the Dorothy S. Thomas Award. Harvard Pop Center hosted a well-attended reception that welcomed close to 70 alumni and friends.
