1st International MPE Meeting

The First Molecular Pathological Epidemiology (MPE) Meeting (closed) in Boston on April 24, 2013

Background and history:
In the summer of 2012, Shuji Ogino emailed Colin Begg, Karl Kelsey, Donna Spiegelman and Piet van den Brandt to organize and propose a symposium at Society for Epidemiologic Research (SER) 2013 Annual Meeting in Boston.  The proposal was not taken by SER, but based on Colin Begg’s idea of our gathering, we decided to have this closed meeting in Boston on 4/24/2013, the birthday of Shuji Ogino (because that was the only day everyone was available).  We invited Ed Giovannucci, as well as 4 young investigators (see below), and a total of 10 people gathered.  The picture above was taken at the dinner on 4/23/2013 (from left to right; Aya Kuchiba, Donna Spiegelman, Piet van den Brandt, Shuji Ogino, Colin Begg, and Reiko Nishihara).

The meeting went very successfully!  The only 2 regrets I (Shuji Ogino) still have is that we didn’t make enough photos, and that we did not publish conference proceedings!  Nonetheless, we still have this historical photo and minutes of this meeting.
