Dr. Karestan C. Koenen, Professor of Psychiatric Epidemiology, has recently co-authored “Americans Want Health. Will Leaders Listen?” in Thrive Global.
In the article, Drs. Koenen and Sandro Galea praise the American public for their quick and drastic behavioral changes during the last few months, such as social distancing and the use of face masks, that has help flatten the COVID-19 curve. They also call upon leaders to help create a healthier US.
“Our citizens have shown through their sacrifices that we want health. We have shown we want health. And yet we know that the US far lags behind other high-income countries on health,” they write. “Is it then not time for us collectively to demand health at all times? What does that look like?”
