The Program

FACETS is a dynamic program that takes a holistic approach to cultivating the next generation of scientists.  FACETS offers research opportunities. However, the program recognizes the importance of offering coursework and networking opportunities with the overall goal of increasing participants’ competitiveness for graduate school admission.

A key component of  our program is networking – participants form a group of mentors ranging from peers to faculty across the entire school who provide guidance, support and connections.  Students receive opportunities to interact with world class faculty from across the school during evening lectures, which have included: David Christiani, Max Essex, Phyllis KankiNancy Krieger, Eric Rimm, George Seage, Walter WillettDavid Williams, and Dean Michelle Williams.

Professional development is critical to student success and during the program students learn about navigating academia, assistance with their graduate applications and personal statements, and they receive career counseling.

To inspire and prepare students for a graduate level education, we recognize the importance of exposing students to graduate level coursework.  Our program, therefore provides students with graduate level coursework in key public health courses. Additionally,  students receive intensive GRE training, approximately 5 hours per week, to provide support for graduate admissions.

As a research institution, we are committed to offering participants with meaningful research experience with a member of our esteemed faculty.  Faculty mentors have included: Gary Adamkiewicz, Deborah Blacker, Sara BleichKirsten DavisonMolly Forrest Franke, Ichiro Kawachi, Maggie McConnell and Meredith Rosenthal.
