Automatic Security Updates

SPH uses SCCM, a solution provide by Harvard University Information Technology (HUIT), to deploy critical security patches and updates to Windows machines.  Also provided by HUIT is Jamf, which performs the same function for Apple computers across the school.  These services are administered by HUIT and the SPH Field Services Team.

Key features and benefits

  • Allows SPH to install critical security patches on computers as soon as they’re made available by Microsoft and Apple, and have passed our internal testing.
  • Release of patches occurs after broad campus-wide testing and follows a rigorous, but rapid, procedure.
  • Only receive the updates you need – the agent-based software solution communicates from each computer with our central server to determine it’s patch status.  Appropriate updates are automatically applied once they are released.
  • Required for all SPH-owned machines to comply with the University security policy.
