Julia King has a wide range of experience as a filmmaker and film producer in entertainment and education. She currently produces videos for the faculty of Harvard Medical School and the T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Julia started her film career in independent film and television where she produced documentaries and narrative films for HBO, AMC, Netflix, PBS and Cartoon Network. She was selected for the Rotterdam Producer’s Lab as part of the Rotterdam International Film Festival and attended the Sundance Producer’s Lab at the Sundance Institute in 2005.
Julia started working in higher education in 2014 on a documentary storytelling research project with Jeroan Allison at the University of Massachusetts Medical School utilizing culturally appropriate storytelling to improve health outcomes in vulnerable populations. Julia has worked at the Chan School of Public Health since 2015.
