Dr. Fong Wang Clow, SM ’86, ScD ’89, Senior Vice President and Head of Biometrics and Data Management at Pharmacyclics, an AbbVie Company, will be the recipient of the 2019 Lagakos Distinguished Alumni Award.

Pursuing and Achieving Excellence in the Biotech Industry
A biotech career in industry is very different from the academic world. In corporations there can be a strong pressure to conform and be part of the team, even if that results in mediocrity. During my time at Harvard, I was inspired by Nan Laird and others to break out of conformity, work towards greater goals, and achieve excellence in my endeavors. Later at Pharmacyclics, managers like Bob Duggan and Maky Zanganeh nurtured these aspirations which led to exciting results and translated into making a difference for society. In my talk, I will share more behind my quest for excellence with students similarly interested in pursuing rewarding and impactful careers in industry.
