ASA Workshop for High School Students interested in Statistics

On Saturday, February 10th an alumni of the StatStart programJaya Kolluri hosted a workshop for high school students interested in Statistics. The event was cohosted by the American Statistical Association and the Biostatistics Department. Dr. Shannon Stock, an alumni of our department and now an Associate Professor at Holy Cross, helped organize the event along with Priti Thareja from the department. There were 14 high school students who showed up, some commuting as far as from Vermont and New Jersey! Dr. John Quackenbush started off the day by giving a talk about genomics and networks, followed by a workshop in R hosted by Dr. Kathryn Schaber, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Boston Children’s Hospital. The day ended with a Modeling workshop hosted by Dr. Nestor Hernandez, Florida International University. We hope to see some of these students apply to the StatStart program!
