This past week, students on the Genomics Training Grant attended their annual retreat in the far-off land of conference room 426, where 12 students from all years of the program presented their past and on-going research. The topics of the talks ranged from the more theoretical, such as Parker Knight’s talk on PCA on Point Processes, Kevin Kapner’s Rank Reduction in Generalized Bilinear Models, and Becky Danning’s Robust Topic Modeling with Ensembled Topic-SCORE, to the more applied, such as Corri Sept’s Transcription Factor Footprinting in 3D Genome Assays, Randy Williams’ Developing an Integrative Multi-Omic Estimator for Mortality Risk, Tony Chen’s Sparse Modeling of Genetic Effects for Mutli-Ancestry PRS, to AI, Arpan Sarkar’s Protein Domain Annotation with Language Models, and everything in between! Although the schedule was jam packed, there was still time for lively and insightful Q&As and a group photo! Thanks to Kevin Kapner and TJ Channagiri for co-organizing the retreat. Great job everyone and we are looking forward to next year’s retreat!
