The Department virtually welcomed 24 high school students to the 2nd annual program Data Science in Action: Machine Learning for Self-Driving Cars this morning!
The one-week day camp, overseen by Professor Tianxi Cai, and taught by PhD candidate Aarón Sonabend and alumna Jesse Gronsbell, is designed to introduce students to machine learning and programming through a project in which they program various machine learning algorithms including a neural network to recognize images and make a self-driving toy car.
The program is sponsored by the Translational Data Science Center for a Learning Health System (CELEHS) and PARSE (Predictive Analytics Research Solution and Execution) Health.
