We are extremely pleased to announce that internationally acclaimed biostatistician Dr. Marie Davidian will be the recipient of the prestigious 2021 Marvin Zelen Leadership Award in Statistical Science!
Currently the J. Stuart Hunter Distinguished Professor of Statistics at North Carolina State University, Dr. Davidian has distinguished herself through her groundbreaking research focusing on the development of new statistical methods to support precision medicine discovery. She has dedicated her career to addressing emerging challenges in the health sciences while generously serving the statistical community and passionately mentoring the next generation of scientists in the field.
A fellow and former president of the American Statistical Association, Dr. Davidian is also a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, an honorary life member of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and the International Biometric Society, and served as president of ENAR. She was the co-founder/organizer, of the Workshop for Junior Researchers at ENAR, one of the most successful workshops to support the development of junior faculty in the field. Dr. Davidian served as executive editor of the Biometrics journal from 2006–2017. She has been the principal investigator for a total of 36 grants over two decades, published 120+ peer reviewed articles, and is the author of 4 books, with a 5th book Sample size calculations for SMARTs to be published later this year.
Dr. Davidian has received numerous honors from NC State including the Alexander Quarles Holladay Medal for faculty excellence, the Alumni Outstanding Research Award, and the induction into the inaugural class of the NC State Research Leadership Academy. In addition to several other prestigious awards, she has received the Janet L. Norwood Award and the F.N. David Award, both major awards for a female statistician who serves as a role model to other women in the profession.
