Wi-Fi Upgrades Complete

SPH IT along with Harvard University IT (HUIT) have completed a major upgrade to the wireless network across the Harvard Chan School campus to improve Wi-Fi coverage and performance for students, faculty, and visitors.

In 2022, HUIT engaged a wireless network consultant to perform a comprehensive survey of Wi-Fi signal strength and connectivity in all academic and administrative buildings across the Harvard Chan School campus. The results of the survey revealed opportunities to strengthen Wi-Fi coverage in certain areas and upgrade older network components.

Based on the survey findings, HUIT architects designed a multi-phase plan to install over 200 additional wireless access points and replace all existing Cisco access points with the latest Aruba access points featuring Wi-Fi 6 technology.

The new Wi-Fi 6 access points are providing faster data speeds, increased wireless range, better reliability, and stronger overall Wi-Fi coverage throughout campus buildings. Reliable and high-performance wireless connectivity is critical for teaching, learning, and research activities at Harvard Chan.

This network upgrade will enhance the wireless experience for all members of our community and support new technologies well into the future. The wireless network upgrade is part of IT’s ongoing efforts to provide state-of-the-art digital infrastructure across the Harvard Chan campus.
