Electrical shutdown for SPH, Building 1 on June 15th and 19th

The below information comes from HSPH Facilities Manager, Will Bliss.

Two electrical shutdowns will be taking place in SPH1 on Saturday June 15th and Wednesday June 19th.

Emergency Power Shutdown Saturday June 15th:
– The shutdown will begin at approximately 6:00AM and will involve shutting down a switch board serving mechanical room equipment on the basement level. The shutdown is expected to last approximately 8 hours. This is a routine shutdown to replace an electrical switchboard.
All normal and emergency power will remain on throughout the building for the duration of the shutdown. Only select equipment will be impacted.
– The most significant impact to the community will be one of the air handlers serving the lower floors, however, exhaust will remain on in the space. Temporary cooling will be provided to spaces when necessary. The insectary on 1st floor will be impacted and temporary cooling will be provided.

Normal Power Shutdown June 19th:
– The shutdown will begin at approximately 6:00AM and will involve a full building shutdown of the normal power in SPH1. The test requires that the building’s normal power be shut down, allow the generator to activate, and resupply power to the emergency system. All equipment served by emergency power will turned off for 10 seconds and then will be re-energized by the generator. The normal power is expected to remain off for approximately 30 minutes during the test.
– This is a similar shutdown to a previous shutdown that was performed on February 13th, 2019.

Please contact Operations with any questions or temporary power requests for either shutdown.

Thank you,
