COMPLETE: Network maintenance: Saturday, 2/1/20, 7:00am

UPDATE: Saturday, 2/1/20, 8:00am

Firewall maintenance is complete.

Network maintenance: Saturday, 2/1/20, 7:00am – 9:00am

To the Harvard Chan School community:

HUIT will be replacing the firewalls at HSPH this Saturday morning (2/1/20). The maintenance window is scheduled for 7:00am to 9:00pm, but will most likely be done sooner. Network communications – including internal, external, and wireless – will be up and down for periods of time during this maintenance.

Description:
The firewalls serving HSPH are getting refreshed to new hardware (Fortinet 2200E platform. The new hardware will have newer generation network processors and CPUs. HUIT expects brief and/or intermittent network impact towards the beginning of the maintenance window. The firewall gateway MAC will change (re-ARP) on each network, and sessions will drop and need to be re-established. HUIT will monitor the new hardware platform to ensure the new hardware and configuration is operating as expected.

Implementation Plan:
Old firewall configuration freeze on 1/28/20.
On 2/1/20 HUIT will isolate the old firewalls from the network, leaving them physically in place to allow a roll back if required. HUIT will activate the new firewalls and route HSPH traffic through it.
