Everywhere and Nowhere: Obstacles to Care for Long COVID within Rio de Janiero’s Universal Healthcare System

Long COVID – a complex, multisystem condition, with fluctuating, often debilitating, symptoms and no definitive biomarker – is estimated to affect hundreds of thousands of Brazilians. In this talk, Dr Aveling describes her collaboration with interdisciplinary researchers and people with lived experience exploring the complexity, uncertainty and epistemic injustices surrounding recognition and care for Long COVID in Brazil. Drawing on a mixed methods study, Dr. Aveling will discuss the mechanisms through which Long COVID is “invisibilised” within an overburdened universal health system, undermining equitable access to care for individuals living with Long COVID.

Thriving from Work: What is it, and why we should measure it?”

The U.S. Surgeon General recently highlighted the importance of work as a critical social determinant of health affecting the well-being of workers, their families, and communities. This presentation explores the complexity of measuring worker well-being and its pivotal role in fostering thriving workers, workplaces, and communities, while also making the link between worker well-being and organizational performance.
